’Tis the season for The Living Nativity and Pecan-Walnut Festival at Shepherd’s Cross. Held the first two Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in December - 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., this indoor and outdoor walk-through event welcomes everyone to the farm for festive, family-friendly activities.

Come celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ complete with farm animals and costumed characters inside an Amish built barn. Enjoy the outside games, a hay maze, photo opportunities, the Bible Garden and a professional light display. Be prepared to enjoy the peaceful setting of an authentic working sheep farm. The Living Nativity will proceed even in the case of inclement weather.
As you open the barn door and step back in time you will experience spinning, weaving and wool working demonstrations. Enjoy complimentary apple cider and cookies upstairs as you browse the museum. Dramatic storytelling and live music performances will be held every hour. This year’s story will be “The Inn Keeper’s Wife,” which is the story of Christ’s birth from the perspective of the Innkeeper’s Wife, written and told by Frankie Campbell. The event welcomes many local talented musicians including violinists, pianists, guitarists, gospel musicians and soloists. But there is always room for more. Contact Shepherd’s Cross if you would like to perform.
New for this year, on Saturday December 18 from 12-3:30 p.m., each station inside the barn will have a sign language interpreter.
Note: All activities will adhere to COVID restrictions. There will be smaller groups and rigid cleaning guidelines.
Many will contemplate the original Christmas as they take a wagon ride in the sheep pasture, (both an open air wagon or a covered sheep wagon are offered). Journey with the shepherds as they journeyed to see the Christ on that first hallowed night. Rides are available every half hour (canceled in inclement weather). Covered wagon runs during daylight hours.
Children always enjoy the free children’s Christmas activities including an audio-visual story, making a bird feeder, entering the coloring contest, and visiting the Farm Museum and Educational Silo.
Shepherd’s Shop will be open, featuring a host of Made in Oklahoma crafts and gifts. Over 50 artisans provide lovely unique hand-made Christmas gifts for sale. Shepherd’s Cross also sells their 100% natural wool yarns and fibers processed on the farm. The farm is Animal Welfare Approved. The livestock on the farm are fresh grass fed and free range. Fresh lamb and beef meat is available.  Shepherd’s Cross is a fair trade shop that sells hand made products from missions and returns 100% of the proceeds to those missions.
This is a great opportunity to start holiday traditions such as a picture in the manger with family and friends, or add to your Shepherd’s Cross ornament collection with a take home Christmas ornament. A DIY fresh evergreen wreath kit is also available to take home. Heart of the Shepherd’s angel tree, called “The Living Tree,” provides gifts to the less fortunate.
If your family would like to volunteer in the Living Nativity, please contact the farm. Shifts are for two hours throughout the day. Participants experience a memorable, peace filled, quality family time. Costumes are provided; pictures are made available after the event. Volunteers receive a free wagon ride, a free DIY craft and one DIY evergreen wreath kit per group.
This is walnut & pecan harvest season on the farm. Farm fresh black walnuts and native pecans will be available. Enjoy pre-picked or buy whole and they will crack. Amish made fudge and nutty treats are available.
