Summer Vacation Season Kicks Off in Grove & Grand Lake in May

A summer trip to Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees is a treasured annual tradition for many – and with the many events and activities taking place this May plus the return of riverboat cruises to Grand Lake, Summer 2019 looks to be one for the memory books!

Food Truck Friday, Farmers Markets & the Burning of the Socks
The month of lake fun starts off with a bang with Grove’s first Food Truck Friday event the evening of Friday, May 3rd. Enjoy live music, great food trucks, an inflatable obstacle course, and meet the heroes of Oklahoma’s Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association – all on Downtown Grove’s Community Lawn from 4 pm – 9 pm.  Saturday, May 4th, marks the kickoff of the 2019 Grove Farmers’ Market, a producers-only market taking place each Saturday & Wednesday during the growing season on Grove’s Community Lawn from 8 am – 2 pm. Meet local farmers, artists and craftsmen plus enjoy acoustic music – all in the foothills of the Ozarks of Grove & Grand Lake. And if that wasn’t enough, visitors and residents alike can partake in the 10th Annual “Burning of the Socks” event at Harbors View Marina on Duck Creek from 4 – 7 pm on Saturday, May 4th. How cool is that?!?!

Celebrate Mom at the Lake
What mom wouldn’t enjoy a weekend at the lake?  Young and old alike can create Mom a one-of-a-kind gift at Grove’s new Fired Up! at Grand Lake Paint Your Own Pottery Shop in Downtown Grove.  You many also want to take Mom to Grove’s Har-Ber Village Museum where she can get in with a special discounted admission price, explore the village, enjoy the many great exhibits, and get a coupon to make a free yarn scarf in the Village’s Craft Room.

Wastin’ Away in Barkaritaville
One of the most fun – and unique – Grand Lake activities takes place on Saturday, May 18th at Honey Creek Landing and Marina – Barkaritaville, a Jimmy Buffett-inspired fundraiser for Grove’s Second Chance Pet Rescue. The fun goes from 5:30 – 9 pm and includes a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” dinner, the great tunes of popular duo “Brett & Terri,” and a fun Charity Auction – all overlooking beautiful Grand Lake.

The Return of the Riverboat Cruises on Grand Lake
The popular riverboat cruises return to Grand Lake for the season on Thursday, May 23rd aboard the historic Grand Lake Queen. Enjoy a 1 ½ hour sightseeing cruise on Oklahoma’s only riverboat and see many interesting points of interest – to include fascinating flora and fauna – on this one-of-a-kind attraction at Grand Lake.  Tours will continue throughout the season each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and tickets can be purchased online at GrandLakeQueen.com or at the Ship Store at Grove’s Royal Bay Marina, the home port of the Grand Lake Queen.

The Official Start to Lake Season – Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day weekend, May 23rd - 26th, marks the “official” start of lake season in Grove & Grand Lake and should be a wonderful time to enjoy boating, fishing, and relaxing on the lake. Live music will be available at many waterfront bars and clubs plus in town and at local casinos such as Cherokee Casino Grove, Grand Lake Casino, River Bend Casino & Hotel, and Indigo Sky Casino.

Trop Rock Music, Boat Races and Top Bass Anglers
The weekend after Memorial Day, May 31st – June 2nd, brings the Toes in the Grand Summer Kickoff Festival to Grand Lake, Mid-America’s largest FREE Trop Rock music (think Jimmy Buffett-style music) and lake lifestyle festival - plus food trucks, kids activities, a classic car show, and the Tiki Man 5K Fun Run – where runners are awarded for best times and best costumes!  Also taking place that same weekend at Grove’s Wolf Creek Park will be David Kane’s Thunder on Wolf Creek hydroplane boat races plus the Major League Fishing’s MLF Bass Pro Tour, with the top bass anglers in the world competing.
