It’s a Short Trail to Old Settlers Day!

The excitement in Checotah is building as Old Settler's Day draws nearer and plans are coming together. Old Settler's Day, historically set for the 2nd Saturday in June, has been a tradition in Checotah for 51 years. It will be a fun-filled day with the alluring smells, sights, and sounds that we all look forward to every year.
The day will kick-off with the Lion's Club pancake breakfast located at the American Legion beginning at 7:00 AM.
New event this year is The Children's Miracle Network 5K Run & 3K Walk. It will take place at Lake Eufaula State Park - Hummingbird Beach. Registration is at 6:00 AM and the race will start at 7:00 AM. This event is sponsored by Wal-Mart 340.
The first event of the day is the Turtle Race scheduled for 9:00 AM. Citizens start streaming into downtown early. With other activities scheduled throughout the day, there will be lots of fun and excitement for all ages. Kids’ games include frog jumping; turtle racing; balloon toss; fish scramble and many other traditional kids’ games. There will be games for the adults, too, which include a balloon toss; a tobacco spitting contest and other favorites. Additional scheduled events include a downhill derby race; pony rides; petting zoo; touch a truck; car show (tractors, boats, cars & trucks); inflatable's. There will be gunfights by the Pistoliers and an Old-time Medicine Show. It will be a full day of fun and excitement for all ages.
The Checotah Chamber is still accepting applications for Food and Arts & Crafts vendors. Anyone interested in a booth may contact the Chamber office at 918-473-2070.
The parade is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 10th. Anyone interested in being in the parade is encouraged to call the Chamber.
The Checotah Round-Up Rodeo (ACRA - IPRA) for Old Settler’s Day will be on Friday, June 9th and Saturday, June 10th at the Checotah Round- Up Arena beginning at
8:00 PM. $5.00 admission; 6 & under free.
Also, in recognition of the 51st, there will be a Street Dance featuring "The Brad Duvall Band" from 9:00 PM till Midnight at Veterans Park. The Street Dance Sponsored by Armstrong Bank, Peoples National Bank and First Family Federal Credit Union. Bring your Chairs!
