David Kane’s Thunder on Wolf Creek Boat Races Coming to Grand Lake

Rev your engines up and head to Grove & Grand Lake on August 9th, 10th and 11th for the 7th Annual Thunder on Wolf Creek boat races. Billed as “The Greatest Show on the Water,” Thunder on Wolf Creek offers three days of boat racing excitement on Wolf Creek Bay at Grove’s Wolf Creek Park – and it’s FREE to attend.
Thunder on Wolf Creek will offer 20 heats of hydroplane and runabout boat racing, featuring 65 boats from 15 states. Racers are competing for points in the National Boat Racing Association, also known as the NBRA.
“We are so excited to see the return of Thunder on Wolf Creek to Grove & Grand Lake,” said Donnie Crain, President of the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. “These races are extremely popular and offer a fun, unique way to enjoy a day at the lake and see some of the finest racers in the country compete. Originally scheduled for early June, the boat races were postponed at that time due to the high water but the water levels in August should be ideal for the races and we know it will be a big draw to the area.”
“We hope that visitors not only enjoy the races, but also take time to enjoy the many other great attractions we have at Grand Lake such as the Grand Lake Queen, Har-Ber Village, Lendonwood Gardens, championship golf courses, world-class fishing, car and motorcycle museums, and a charming downtown full of great shops, restaurants, and activities.”
Thunder on Wolf Creek will begin on Friday, August 9th as a “test day,” allowing racers to perform tests from Noon – 5 pm on their boats in preparation for the races on Saturday & Sunday. Races begin on Saturday, August 10th at Noon and go until 5:30 pm that day. Racing resumes on Sunday, August 11th at Noon and concludes for the weekend at 4 pm. In addition to the racing, there will also be multiple food trucks on location during the event.
