Celebrate like it’s the ‘80s at Har-Ber Village Museum in Grove, Oklahoma

What do Chewbacca, the Challenger, and Cabbage Patch Kids have in common? They are all icons of the 1980s! The Village’s 50th anniversary celebration with a look at the 1980s continues on July 21 with a free dance/concert and outdoor movie thanks to Grove Tourism Bureau and Grove Rotary Club! That same night, you will also be able to enjoy a 1980s-themed  dinner (Mediterranean Chicken, served with Couscous, Vegetables, and a Dinner Salad, includes Coffee or Tea) at the Café at Har-Ber Village. Reservations are highly recommended for the dinner ($12 per adult; $7 per child up to age 13; $2 discount for Har-Ber Village members). Tickets for the dinner may be purchased online at har-bervillage.com.

The free dance/concert begins in the Event Tent (right behind the Café) at 6:00 pm. The center of the Event Tent will be left open for dancing with plenty of seating around the perimeter to enjoy Joplin’s hottest cover band, 80 and Out, bringing the best lights, sound, and magic from Bruno Mars to Van Halen … from 2 Pac to the Gin Blossoms.  Band Members include: Anthony Ficken - Vocals • Guitar, Nathan Ward - Vocals • Guitar • Bass, Ian Derrickson - Vocals • Percussion, and Dan Stanley - Bass.

Refreshments (sodas, water, popcorn, candy) will be available for sale during the dance and the movie. This is a family-friendly event, so no alcoholic beverages are being sold. Around 8:30 pm, the 1980s movie favorite Raiders of the Lost Ark will be shown on an outdoor inflatable screen on the lawn and gravel next to the Event Tent. There is no charge to watch the film, but you might want to bring your favorite comfortable chairs and blankets!

Add to your 1980s experience by visiting Har-Ber Village during the day! The Village portion of Har-Ber Village Museum will have extended hours on July 21, from 9am - 5:00 pm! To really get in the mood, look through your closet and dig out those outfits with shoulder pads, leotards, leg warmers, baggy pants, bright neon colors and Miami Vice suits! Oh—and don’t forget the boombox! Thanks to sponsors Grand Lake Pest Control and the Evans, Bridges, Siems families, we will be offering a variety of crafts (friendship bracelets and pins and pom pom critters), games (Trivial Pursuit), and 1980s television series and movies: watch ALF episodes and Fried Green Tomatoes (showing at 10am and 1:30pm). Look for Rubik’s Cube icons throughout the museum and earn an ‘80s badge. Scouts can earn a special ‘80s patch this day as well.

Special activities scheduled for the day include: the Cherokee Youth Choir performance at 11:00 a.m., visit with one of the people who assisted in the production of Cabbage Patch Kids between 10 a.m. and noon, and view a 1987 Chevrolet Corvette parked on Main Street for all to enjoy.

All of the activities scheduled for this day are included with regular admission unless otherwise noted. Regular Har-Ber Village Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Admission is $10 for adults; $7.50 for seniors 62+; $5 for children 6-13; under 6, members, and active military and their families free. Discounts on many programs and free admission is available to those who become Har-Ber Village members.
