Pensacola Dam is the "World's Largest Multiple Arch Dam". The dam was a product of Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration bill. The dam was built within 20 months with constant, 24/7 concrete pours by Depression-Era laborers. By the August of 1940, the road across the Dam was open and by the end of that summer, with heavy rains, the lake was full, and the Grand Lake O' the Cherokees was a reality. Restricted tours are available by reservation, please check the website for details.
