The National Indian Taco Championship is an event that takes place in downtown Pawhuska. It starts from 10am to 4pm and this year will be on October 1st , 2016. This is a competition to see who has the best Indian Taco in the country. Contestants normally compete in one round to see if they make it in the qualifying round! Once in the qualifying round we have a panel of “Oklahoma Celebrity Judges” to judge the ultimate winner. The winners of the Championship can place 1st, 2nd and 3rd with the winning amounts of $1500, $1000 and $500. Contestants also have the chance to win $1000 and win the title People’s Choice Winners voted by the attendees. While the Indian Taco Competition is going on there are vendors along sides selling all types of jewelry, art work and more; there is also Native American Dance that takes place. This alone can give you the chance to win some prize money if you do compete in the dance portion. We offer two ways to be a judge costing $5 each. It’s a great event that brings people into Historic Downtown Pawhuska to shop in all of our historical buildings and culture! The National Indian Taco Championship is the 2015 “Best Food Festival” by Red Dirt Report and 2016 Merit Award for Outstanding Event at the Oklahoma State Tourism RedBud Awards
