Surrounded by water, this city is a great place to visit or retire, especially if you're an avid fisherman.
Outdoor activities abound at Pioneer Cove where you'll find:
- A Marina
- Sandy Beaches
- A new disc golf course
- Fishing (Annual crappie contest in March, April & May)
July: Christmas in July & Fourth of July weekend. This celebration culminates with a lighted boat flotilla and spectacular fireworks.
August: The Kaw Nation headquarters is in Kaw City and the first weekend in August, the historical pageantry of this tribe is displayed during the Kaw Pow Wow.
September: Sailboats create a colorful sight during the annual R.O.C.K. Regatta.
January: Winter is highlighted by the annual Eagle Watch the third Saturday.
Year 'round you can enjoy many historical sights and unique metal sculptures. As you enter from the west on Hwy 11, look up on the hill where the Consultant of the Southwind welcomes you. Jumping deer leap out of the ground in this unique metal sculpture near City Hall.
History of both the tribe and the community are detailed in two museums:
- The Kanza Museum by the Kaw Tribal Headquarters on the north side of Highway 11. Monday-Friday: 8am-5pm
- The Kaw City Museum begun in an old railway station on the South side off Highway 11 by City Hall. Weekends: 2pm-5pm.
