Robert S. Kerr Lake offers sightseers and nature lovers an enticing outdoor experience. Located in the picturesque Cookson Hills, the lake, with its many arms formed by tributary valleys, has 250 miles of rugged and irregular shoreline.

The lake area is beautiful year-round with many flowering shrubs, hickories, and blackjacks. There are also many species of birds that are native to the area.

The lake provides excellent opportunities for fishing and hunting. Principal species of fish in the lake include:

  • Channel Catfish
  • Flathead Catfish
  • White Crappie
  • Largemouth Bass
  • Striped Bass
  • Walleye
  • Various species of sunfish

About 9,750 acres of project lands are open for public hunting.

There are numerous park areas around the lake that include a multitude of recreational facilities including:

  • Boat Launching Ramps
  • Camp Sites
  • Picnic Areas
  • Swimming Beaches
  • Drinking Water
  • Sanitary Facilities

The broad expanse and depth of the water immediately about the dam and extending out seven miles upstream will satisfy the demand for pleasure boating and for sail craft outside the limits of the navigation channel.
